TBS iNsight
assesses bone micro architecture quality
directly, from DXA images, and requiring no additional hardware or further examination of the patient.

The Software

Developed by a multidisciplinary R&D team, the algorithm for TBS iNsight® applies a method used in geophysics to analyze the micro architecture of trabecular bone.
From the DXA image produced by a bone densitometer and without any additional examination, TBS iNsight®-patented algorithms re-analyze the spatial dynamics of variations in pixel intensity, allowing for the estimation of bone micro architecture.
Ex vivo studies clearly demonstrate that the index obtained by TBS re-analysis is strongly correlated with the essential parameters of bone micro architecture that were identified by Parfitt (TbSp, TbN, ConnD), and that these correlations are independent of areal bone mineral density (BMD).

TBS iNsight® is an innovation of high added value. When used in conjunction with BMD, the TBS index allows for the identification of up to 61% of patients with a high risk of fracture who were misclassified by BMD alone. All in vivo and ex vivo clinical studies have shown that TBS values constitute new critical data that are complementary to BMD.

The best added value of TBS can be observed for osteopenic  bone, where BMD values for patients with and patients without fractures overlap. This is especially true for patients with risk factors for secondary osteoporosis. Moreover, preliminary studies have shown that TBS may be of great help monitoring the effectiveness of treatments that influence bone micro architecture, in addition to BMD.

Without requiring any additional examination, TBS iNsight® delivers a clear and exhaustive TBS report, within 10 seconds after the DXA examination, . Easy to integrate into your clinical routine and compatible with most densitometers recently introduced into the market (GE Healthcare-Lunar and Hologic), TBS iNsight® reveals bone micro architecture status, in addition to BMD, without requiring any additional examination.

TBS iNsight® is a software package that is installed onto your densitometer’s PC.

Obtained TBS values allow you to compare each patient with the normal population, and to assess the bone micro-

architecture’s complementary impact upon fracture risk.

The TBS report is printed within 10 seconds of the BMD report.

TBS iNsight® requires no manipulation or further review.

TBS iNsight® has the capacity to retrospectively re-analyze all AP spine exams already performed with your bone

    densitometer.
